The Rio CRIDS, a project of the FGV Centre of Excellence on EU-Latin America Global Challenges, co-funded by the European Union, welcomes Professor Ana Caetano, who delivered a lecture on “An Overview of the Most Relevant Disputes at the WTO between Brazil and European Union” (March, 27th).

Ana Caetano is the head of Veirano’s International Trade Practice. She is most prominent for her negotiation, consultation and dispute skills and work in WTO matters. She has acquired solid expertise and experience in over 20 years practicing trade and defending Brazilian interests at the WTO. Ana has served as a panelist in WTO dispute settlement proceedings.

Ana Caetano’s lecture delved into the inner workings of the dispute settlement system, specifically examining its rules, procedures, and relevant bodies. This analysis aimed to shed light on the internal processes followed when disputes arise. The lecture consisted in a detailed examination of the ongoing disputes between Brazil and the European Union. This analysis provided both a presentation of the specific cases involving Brazil, and a critical evaluation WTO DSB’s functioning, including its appeals processes.

The lecture provided valuable insights into the legal debate. We would like to express our gratitude to Professor Ana Caetano for sharing her time and expertise with us.

We look forward to further collaboration.
